If you have any questions, feel free to email me and I'll be glad to answer them in a second video. AskSamHarris.com Sam Harris shows off his pink private parts!

► http://AskSamHarris.com Sam promised to show photos of his vocal chords, and here they are in the flesh. Why can't you eat or drink dairy products before singing? ... Sam Harris can't drink milk or eat dairy before singing as it causes oral phlegm deep in the throat. He previously explained how vocal chords are similar to a vagina. Sam impersonates the action it performs in the original video. No sex, not porn! Vocal chord photos from his Doctor as promised in AskSamHarris.com #10 here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9XuamnH0WNE Enjoy! The larynx is located in the throat and contains the vocal chords and glottis. With the exhalation of breath, the diaphragm forces air up through cartilage "horn" of the larynx by contracting. The air moves through the vocal chords, which are situated in the muscular vibrating folds of the larynx, and the glottis, the space formed between them. By stretching the vocal chords, adjusting the tension and varying the air pressure through the glottis, the pitch of our voice is adjusting, tuning higher or lower. A lower sound requires a longer column of air and is felt in the chest, a higher sound uses a shorter column of air and is felt in the nose and head ------------------------------------------- ► http://SamTUBE.com ... ► http://SamVLOG.com ... behind the scenes in the everyday life of Sam. ► http://AskSamHarris.com ... ask Sam anything, and he'll reply via a vlog. ► http://SamHarris.com/answers ... answer link from the "Ask Sam Harris" series. ► http://MySpace.com/SamHarrisMusic ... keep up to date, and be Sam's MySpace friend! ► http://SamTUNES.net ... to download Sam Harris songs and full albums. ► http://SamHarris.com ... information, biography, discography and buy cds. Mal Webb's Larynx in Hamburg

In 2006, I was flown to Hamburg by an esteemed group of French and German physicist to act as a vocal guinea pig. I'm useful to those studying the acoustics of the voice because I'll try nearly anything (short of damaging my voice!) Nathalie Henrich, Lucie Bailly, Markus Hess, Anna-Katharina Licht and Frank Müller all coincided upon Universitätsklinikum Hamburg-Eppendorf for a few hours. Using a microphone, an ECG, a nasal laryngascope (with a strobe at times, which matches the frequency of the sound being produced) and several white coats, they recorded me making a wide variety of sounds. The video starts with the journey though my nose. Then there's some sideways yodeling (crossing the break from chest voice (and true head voice) into falsetto). This is my favourite thing and my instructional video on this is at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_6nNWX7TTI ) Next, we have inbreath singing (starting with a triplet of chest to falsetto to inbreath). Then there's throat singing. I'm not much of throat singer (especially with an endoscope right next to my larynx), but to have one larynx doing each of the 4 different "growly voices" on roughly the same pitch was rather useful to them. First, there's the sob/whinge growl (no-one seems to know what to call this one). Second is the vocal fry or croaky/morning voice. Thirdly, the Louis Armstrong/Fat Albert/Fozzie Bear which is where the ventricular folds (also called "false vocal chords") interact with the epiglottus (firstly with and then without vocal folds (which is the Dr. Claw "I'll get you, Gadget" voice)). An fourthly, there's the classic growl (which is akin to the Tibetan/Mongolian style). This leads into a scream and some heavy belting (not things I like to do for prolonged periods!) Finishing with a snippet of my song "Got to Go" was apt, as I had a plane to catch and the others all had to race off as well. You might notice from the time code that I've edited out quite a lot of coughing, gagging and chatting. Fun stuff... all in the name of science! The above ways of describing vocal sounds are mine and I'm sure there are voice specialists out there who might disagree with me (and eachother) about how to describe these things... it's complicated in there! Bewdy, love, Mal http://www.malwebb.com

My Larynx - High Speed Video

This is a high-speed video capture of my larynx using the new Kay-Pentax high speed videolaryngoscopy system. It captures the images at 2000 frames per second, allowing you to see individual cycles of vocal fold vibration. The video captures the completion of one phonation (on an "EEEE" sound), followed by the onset of a second. You can see that air starts to come through the vocal cords before the vibration begins. This is what I do all day.

Inside Steve Sklar's Larynx: Sygyt

Endoscopic video examination of my larynx while singing Tuvan sygyt style. Things to notice: the extreme constriction of the vestibule of the larynx; compare this to the more open area around and at the vocal folds when I stop singing, and when I speak in normal voice. You can barely see the vocal folds when singing sygyt (they look almost like tiny teeth beneath the constriction). Also, note the movement of the epiglottis (looks like a bright surfboard) with the harmonic melody. This is done by appropriate movements of the root of the tongue, to which it is connected. Ever wonder how videos of the inside of the larynx are made? See this video about fibroscopy, used to make endoscopic videos: http://khoomei.com/videos/fibroscopy.mov Kids, don't try this at home!!! Inside Steve Sklar's Larynx: Kargyraa

Endoscopic video examination of my larynx while singing Tuvan kargyraa style. Things to notice: the constriction of the vestibule of the larynx; compare this to the more open area around and at the vocal folds when I stop singing, and when I speak in normal voice. Also, you can see the two levels of kargyraa phonation: at the level of the vocal folds (lower, and partially occluded, and the ventricular folds, which are vibrating ABOVE the vocal folds. The ventricular folds are the source of the low tones, NOT something low in the neck as claimed by others here at YouTube. Ever wonder how videos of the inside of the larynx are made? Spasmodic Dysphonia: A Peculiar Voice Disorder

Dr. Robert Bastian reviews the various types and subtypes of a rare neurological voice disorder called spasmodic dysphonia--SD. Numerous voice examples are included, along with video of the vocal folds. Spasmodic dysphonia (SD) is a rare neurological disorder caused by laryngeal dystonia, and it interferes with the smooth functioning of the voice. Tiny spasms of the vocal folds may cause the voice to catch or cut out, strain or squeeze away, and sometimes to drop momentarily to a whisper. Those watching this tape will hear examples of the many types of SD. http://www.bastianvoice.com

Voice Lessons: Brett Manning Teaches Scat Springs

http://www.singingsuccessonline.com/ad/youtube_sso_article/ Title: SCAT CAN SING Date: 01.14.2009 Coach: Brett Manning Artist: Scat Springs Tags: brett manning, singing success online, vocal method, training, voice lessons, scat springs, soul singer, low larynx, exercises Description: Directed by: Jeremy Spencer For this update weve brought in one of Bretts long time friends, Scat Springs. Scat is a nationally recognized singer songwriter, recording artist, and has been one of Nashvilles most sought after vocalists for over 20 years. Hes recorded with Faith Hill, Michael W. Smith, LeAnn Womack, Point of Grace, Anointed, Carmen, D.C. Talk, The Temptations, Donna Summer, Jimmy Buffet, and many other Grammy award-winning artists. Brett sits down with Scat to show the importance of a low larynx. Scat demonstrates several vocal exercises that can help keep the larynx down. Its interesting to see that after so many years of great technique, Scat uses a low larynx without even thinking about it. The whole point of this lesson is to show what singing with a low larynx can sound like, and how it can give you a full and easy sound.
