Arturo Melocchi teaching Limarilli

The great Melocchi, teacher of Del Monaco, Corelli, and countless others. This is chiaroscuro, fully engaged singing. He teaches him how to properly "cover" ( I know some people hate that term) by going more towards OO in the passaggio while still trying to keep the integrity of the vowel and chest sound as much as possible. The OO and covering is pulling in proper falsetto muscle coordination into the sound - as well as the covering muscles (infrahyoids) - keeping the scuro and lengthening of the vocal folds.

10 Steps to Have a Stronger Voice - Voice Over Teaching

http://www.OneMinuteU.com 10 Steps to Have a Stronger Voice - Voice Over Teaching ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ hi, I'm Karen Schadow, president of The Voice of Success, here to talk about my 10 steps to a more dynamic voice. let's talk about the big three. I call it my APB, all points bulletin: articulation, projection, and breathing. articulation: really use your teeth, your lips, and your tongue to get all of those sounds for clearer understanding. projection: think about projecting the sound on to the end of your finger to get the sound out. and breathing, the most important. never speak without first taking a breath, so that that sound is consistent all the way through. The Act of Teaching

Teachers can convey their ideas more powerfully if they take time to improve their presentation skills. In The Act of Teaching, Nancy Houfek, Head of Voice and Speech for the American Repertory Theatre at Harvard University, leads a workshop that stresses the importance of communication with the whole self in order to reach an audience. Throughout the workshop, she introduces participants to the same techniques that actors use to prepare and deliver a performance, including warm-ups, relaxation, strengthening, and visualizing exercises. In Part I, Theater Techniques for Classroom and Presentation, Houfek focuses on overcoming stage fright, knowing your objectives, and "landing your message." In Part 2, Physical and Vocal Exercises, she leads teachers through 20 minutes of exercises specifically designed to prepare them for the physical challenges of the classroom, beginning with "Waking Up the Body," and moving to vocal warm-ups that treat the voice as an instrument requiring care. Together, these techniques and exercises present a new set of resources that greatly broaden the avenues we customarily use in communicating with colleagues and students. US States Will Compete for School Reform Aid

This is the VOA Special English Education Report, from http://www.voaspecialenglish.com The Obama administration is launching a national competition called Race to the Top. States will compete for more than four billion dollars in grants to support the best plans for improving schools. President Obama and Education Secretary Arne Duncan announced the details in July. The president said this competition will not be based on politics or ideology or the wishes of a particular interest group. Instead, it will be based on a simple principle: whether a state is ready to do what works. President Obama wants the United States to regain the world's highest college graduation rates, especially in math and science. His target date is two thousand twenty. But he says the education system is "falling short" and "countries that out-educate us today will out-compete us tomorrow." The United States is one of thirty countries in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. The OECD has the Program for International Student Assessment, or PISA. Every three years PISA measures the performance of fifteen-year-olds. In two thousand six, the United States had lower scores in mathematics than twenty-three of the other twenty-nine OECD countries. Sixteen countries did better in science. The Race to the Top competition will look for states and local school systems with effective reforms in four areas. One area is meeting international standards for preparing students for college and jobs. Another is developing better ways to hire, keep and reward effective teachers and school leaders. A third area is building information systems that not only measure student success, but also inform teachers how to improve. President Obama supports linking teacher pay to student performance. Teachers unions have resisted that idea. States that want to take part in the Race to the Top cannot have rules that bar performance-based pay for teachers. That requirement could make it difficult for several states to receive money from the fund. Among them are California and New York. Finally, to win grants, states must show they are improving the lowest performing schools. The Education Department will award the first grants early next year. States will get two chances to win. Also, the department plans to award almost six billion dollars through other federal programs in the coming months to support reform efforts. And that's the VOA Special English Education Report.

Vocal Tips: Brett Manning on Terminology

http://www.singingsuccessonline.com/ad/youtube_sso_article/ Brett tackles one of the oldest issues in vocal pedagogy: Terminology. No matter what anyone calls the sounds coming out of the throat, the singer still is left with the daunting task of actually singing even as all the world's vocal coaches fight over what to call falsetto and other "important issues" Head Voice, Legit, Superhead, Whistle Flageolet, Unspported, Nuetral, Curbing, Belting, Yelling, Chest Voice, Low Voice, High Voice, Strong Voice, Breathy Voice, Rasp, Grott, Texture, Screaming, Bel Canto, Covering, Narrowing, Overdrive (my personal favorite :: rolls eyes ::), mixing, extended chest, support chest, unsupport chest, falsetto, false voice, real voice, fake voice, bad voice, good voice... No matter what you call it.. most people agree that good sound is... well good. Enjoy! And see some of our other exclusive tips and articles along with tons of video voice lessons for free at: http://www.singingsuccessonline.com/ad/youtube_sso_article/
