The vocal cords of Valerian Ruminski....vibrating! Looks funny doesnt it??? If you look down in the middle of the screen you will see two cords vibrating...THAT is the human voice....! They have some white phlegm on them. That is why I went to the otolaryngologist in Kansas City to have them scoped. They put a camera down my nasal cavity with a light.

Oboist with vocal cord damage vs the scope

I've had vocal cord damage since September 2008. As a music major this is very limiting, but I do deal with it though it gets quite painful at times. A few of my conductors were baffled why I would have intense vocal cord pain playing the oboe. When I knew I had to face the scope, one brilliant professor said, "Take the camera with you so the dept can learn from this". ... so I did.... The doctor narrates through most of it. She has me speak badly, the new way, has me play long tones, moving lines and sing. I have not been able to sing for almost a year because of this and it is very apparent, my range is terrible and is nothing where it was (so don't make fun of it). Yes, I realize too when I played the scale, I skipped the C on the way back down- they had me pretty drugged so I'm surprised that was the only flaw. Watch my throat as I hold a long tone...we figured out why I'm in so much pain! I'm hoping someone can use this as a learning experience.

If you have any questions, feel free to email me and I'll be glad to answer them in a second video. I find that people are much more comfortable with my voice once they understand why it sounds the way it does.

Vocal Cord Therapy-Mayo Clinic

We live in a talkative society. Millions of people depend on their voices every day for work -- teachers, telemarketers, therapists, singers -- the list goes on. But if you overuse your voice you can get sore, hoarse and even develop calluses or nodules on your vocal cords. Doctors at Mayo Clinic say learning to use your voice correctly can help keep the dialogue going.

The sound of trying to sing with vocal cord nodules

I've had vocal cord nodules, also called karaoke nodules, for over a year now. I developed them from a bad habit of screaming when I'm angry and sining wrong and without warming up . It used to be a lot worse. I used to not be able to put out any natural sound on the scale. Here I can get the last part out some what okay. On my other videos you can hear that I love to sing. I'm not supposed to sing, scream, rise my voice, whisper, and I'm supposed to drink 64 oz. of water a day. I also can't clear my throat, if I need to clear it I instead must hum softly and take a sip of water. I really want my voice back but it's been hard to follow through with all of these things. I have to talk in a low normal voice, then I have people going "huh" all the time and I have to repeat myself. This is twice the work on my cords which kinda defeats the purpose of resting them in the first place! I feel like a caged song bird who gets pelted with bebe's if it tries to sing!

AskSamHarris.com Sam Harris shows off his pink private parts!

► http://AskSamHarris.com Sam promised to show photos of his vocal chords, and here they are in the flesh. Why can't you eat or drink dairy products before singing? ... Sam Harris can't drink milk or eat dairy before singing as it causes oral phlegm deep in the throat. He previously explained how vocal chords are similar to a vagina. Sam impersonates the action it performs in the original video. No sex, not porn! Vocal chord photos from his Doctor as promised in AskSamHarris.com #10 here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9XuamnH0WNE Enjoy! The larynx is located in the throat and contains the vocal chords and glottis. With the exhalation of breath, the diaphragm forces air up through cartilage "horn" of the larynx by contracting. The air moves through the vocal chords, which are situated in the muscular vibrating folds of the larynx, and the glottis, the space formed between them. By stretching the vocal chords, adjusting the tension and varying the air pressure through the glottis, the pitch of our voice is adjusting, tuning higher or lower. A lower sound requires a longer column of air and is felt in the chest, a higher sound uses a shorter column of air and is felt in the nose and head ------------------------------------------- ► http://SamTUBE.com ... ► http://SamVLOG.com ... behind the scenes in the everyday life of Sam. ► http://AskSamHarris.com ... ask Sam anything, and he'll reply via a vlog. ► http://SamHarris.com/answers ... answer link from the "Ask Sam Harris" series. ► http://MySpace.com/SamHarrisMusic ... keep up to date, and be Sam's MySpace friend! ► http://SamTUNES.net ... to download Sam Harris songs and full albums. ► http://SamHarris.com ... information, biography, discography and buy cds.
